What is a LifeGroup? A LifeGroup is a small group of people doing life together by meeting weekly, or bi-weekly, over the course of three semesters which typically run for eight to ten weeks.
What happens at a LifeGroup? A LifeGroup will last for approximately 90 minutes. During that time, you will have the opportunity to learn one of many available topics, and build relationships with a small group of people.
Why should I join a LifeGroup? Sometimes, it is difficult to get to know people in a large church, and LifeGroups provide the best medium for building relationships to last a lifetime.
Do I need to purchase a book? Book purchases are recommended but not required to attend the LifeGroup. Attendees will purchase their own materials. The links below are only suggestions, as you may find more cost-effective resources on your own.
This LifeGroup will expose Satan’s deceptive snares and the offense used to get believers out of the will of God. The issue of offense – the very core of The Bait of Satan – is often the most difficult obstacle an individual must face and overcome. Jesus said, “It is impossible that no offenses should come” (Luke 17:1 NKJV). Your choice is not in whether or not you get offended, but in how you choose to respond. This message will empower you to stay free from offense, enabling you to have an unhindered relationship with God and others.
The cosmic conflict exploding all around us will have eternal implications, for us and those we love. This LifeGroup will prepare you to do spiritual battle with the enemy of your soul…and win! You’ll learn to clothe yourself with God’s spiritual armor so you can be confident of certain victory over the scheming enemy. NOTE: This LifeGroup meets every other week and is a continuation from the Fall semester.

No matter what life stage you’re in or struggles you’re going through, if where you are isn’t where you want to be, don’t stay there. Break free! NOTE: This is a two-part journey that begins in the Winter semester and resumes in the Spring semester. This LifeGroup is for women only.

Join us Midweek in Mount Vernon as we go deeper; learning and living Gospel truth. In this LifeGroup, we will take a closer look at the story of David and Goliath and discover how we must slay the giants of fear, rejection, complacency, anxiety, anger and addiction in our lives. We will learn that the key to living free from our giants is not better slingshot accuracy, but keeping our eyes on the one and only giant-slayer: Jesus. Put your hope in Him, and watch Goliath fall. NOTE: This LifeGroup meets on the Mount Vernon campus and will be led by various guest facilitators.
Our walk with Christ is just that; a daily, on-going walk with our Lord and Savior. We are called to commune daily with Jesus, to listen for His voice and to carry out, with thanksgiving and obedience, the direction we receive from His Word. How do we do that? We do that by daily practicing the presence of God. Connecting with God each day can mean all the difference in our lives and how we experience God. In this five-week LifeGroup, we will explore the Word together, pray together and learn how to live a fulfilled life in Jesus together. NOTE: This is a 5-week LifeGroup that begins in the 2nd week of the semester. This LifeGroup is for women only and meets in a home in Tarrytown, NY.
Why do we lose our temper? Why do we tend to hurt those we care for most? How do families find themselves broken? The reason is often the way we think. Beyond behaviors and deeper than attitudes, thinking determines outcome more than anything else. The book of Romans challenges us to be no longer conformed to the patterns of the world but rather to be transformed by the renewing of our minds. So much of what we are missing in life is associated with the way we process events in the world around us, draw conclusions about our circumstances, and act out of conclusions uninformed by the truth of Jesus and the Gospel. In a world constantly bombarded by the fictions of a self-absorbed culture, managing our thinking becomes an even trickier proposition. If you repeatedly find yourself in places where you don’t want to go, it’s your thinking that’s leading you there. This Bible study by James MacDonald identifies strongholds, examines how they came to be, and offers believers a biblical path toward repentance and the renewing of their minds. God offers our only hope for victory over disposition, dysfunction, double-mindedness, and every other mental stronghold. With Him we can think differently. NOTE: This is a three-part journey that began in the Fall semester and continues into the Winter and Spring semesters. However, participants can jump on-board at any time. This LifeGroup is for men only.
All day, every day, an invisible war rages around you. A cunning, devilish enemy seeks to wreak havoc on everything that matters to you – your emotions, your mind, your family, your future. But…when the enemy meets a woman dressed for the occasion, he fails miserably. Join Priscilla Shirer in a 7-session Bible study that will challenge you to suit up, stand firm and secure victory in your life. NOTE: This is a 7-week LifeGroup that will end on April 3rd. This LifeGroup is for women only.
Many of us face drudgery, boredom or exploitation at work. We have bad bosses, hostile relationships and unfriendly work environments. Our work seems useless, unappreciated, faulty, frustrating. We don’t get paid enough. We get stuck in dead-end jobs or laid off or fired. We fail. Our skills become obsolete. It’s a struggle just to make ends meet. But how can this be if God created work to be good—and what can we do about it? God’s answers for these questions must be somewhere in the Bible, but where? It turns out that every book of the Bible gives practical, relevant guidance that can help us do our jobs better, improve our relationships at work, support ourselves, serve others more effectively, and find meaning and value in our work. The Bible shows us how to live all of life—including work—in Christ. Only in Jesus can we and our work be transformed to become the blessing it was always meant to be. To put it another way, if we are not following Christ during the 100,000 hours of our lives that we spend at work, are we really following Christ? Our lives are more than just one day a week at church. The fact is that God cares about our life every day of the week. But how do we become equipped to follow Jesus at work?
Do you want your life to be uncommon? Do you want to be known for flashes of goodness and great moments or as a man of character and integrity in all circumstances? God’s desire is to give meaning and purpose to your life by giving you dreams and goals that only you can accomplish. But every day you’re fed messages, expectations and images that push you to live a life other than the one God has planned for you. How can you counteract those messages? How can you maintain your character in all parts of your life? Let Super Bowl Winning Coach, Tony Dungy, be your coach as you walk together through these questions and more. NOTE: This LifeGroup is for men only.
Can you defend the claims of Christianity? In this teen LifeGroup, junior and senior high students will develop confidence in challenging today’s beliefs and worldviews. NOTE: This LifeGroup is for 6th-12th grade students only.
What do you do when God’s timing seems questionable, His lack of intervention hurtful and His promises doubtful? Life often looks so very different than we hoped or expected. Some events may simply catch us off guard for a moment, but others shatter us completely. We feel disappointed and disillusioned and we quietly start to wonder about the reality of God’s goodness. However, our disappointments can be the divine appointments our souls need to radically encounter God. In this group study, we will take a journey of faith as we 1) learn to stop being pulled into the anxiety of disappointment by discovering how to better process unmet expectations and other painful situations, 2) train ourselves to recognize the three strategies of the enemy, so we can stand strong and persevere through unsettling relationships and uncertain outcomes, 3) discover the secret of being steadfast and not panicking when God actually does give us more than we can handle and 4) shift our suspicion that God is cruel or unfair to the biblical assurance that God is protecting and preparing us. Ladies, let’s pull up a chair, grab a cup of tea and grow in our intimacy with the lover of our souls; Jesus! NOTE: This LifeGroup is for women only.

NOTE: This is a two-part journey that begins in the Winter semester and resumes in the Spring semester.
Intercessory prayer is prayer for others. An intercessor is one who takes the place of another or pleads another’s case. Jesus Christ is our model for intercessory prayer. In John 17, He stood before God and interceded for us. He still intercedes for us today and He invites us to enter into that partnership for others. This LifeGroup is devoted to learning about prayer from God’s Word and spending time praying and interceding together.

The nine gifts of the Holy Spirit listed in 1 Corinthians 12 are demonstrations of God’s matchless grace at work in the world, as well as evidence of His powerful presence in the midst of His church. They are manifestations of the sovereignty and provision of God and they testify to the crucial truth that Jesus Christ is the Lord and Savior of the world. In this LifeGroup, we will do a verse-by-verse study of the Holy Spirit and His operation in the Body of Christ, including the Baptism in the Holy Spirit and how the gifts operate within the Body of Christ.

In this updated, newly formatted six-week Bible study through the beatitudes, author Jennifer Kennedy Dean examines the promise of blessedness in Christ’s Sermon on the Mount. Unlike a circumstance-driven emotion, such as happiness, blessedness is eternal and grounded in the reality of Christ in you. This Set Apart study is a tool to help us realize that we were made for holiness, and this core concept of the beatitudes is accessed through a praying life – a life lived in the present-tense power of God. NOTE: This LifeGroup is for women only and meets in a home in Larchmont, NY.
Our Teacher delivered the Beatitudes during His Sermon on the Mount. The Beatitudes were taught not as a promise of an after-life, but as a prescription for everyday living. Quoted but less-often explored, this LifeGroup will examine and bring light to the Beatitudes as a place from which to further expand, express and apply the living heart of Christ within us.
